Determine the Charge of a Metal from the Formula
- We can determine the charge of the metal from the chemical formula of the compound.
- The sum of all the charges must be zero.
- The charge of iron in FeCl3 must be 3+
for the compound to be charge-neutral with the three Cl– anions.
